Kinda kanal

Try out the Kinda Canal for free

Kinda canal is an idyllic canal where the 150-year-old hand-operated locks have been preserved. Your Göta Canal ticket includes a trial ride from Roxen into central Linköping. You get a free round-trip lock in Nykvarn's lock and a free day in the guest harbor in central Linköping.
(The offer is valid during regular opening hours.)

Kinda Canal flows quietly through the beautiful Östergyllen. From the oak landscape and wide plains in the north to the scenic woodlands in the south. The distance is 43 distance minutes or approximately 8 miles. In the past, the canal was important as a transport route for the village, for timber and what agriculture provided. Today, it is at least as important for those looking for beautiful nature experiences and relaxation. In Kinda Kanal, there is rarely any congestion either in locks or lakes. Here there is an opportunity for everyone to find their undisturbed bathing cove, fishing spot or snack spot.

The Nykvarn lock

The Nykvarn lock is the first or last lock on Kinda Canal, depending on the direction of travel, and has a level difference of 2.8 meters. It is also the connection between lake Roxen/Göta Canal and Stångån/Kinda Canal.

Please note that the Kinda Canal has different maximum dimensions for boats than the Göta Canal:

Length:            24,50 m
With:                4,50 m
Draft:                1,50 m
Hight:                3,09 m (4,50 m to the first lock, with walking distance to Linköping city)
