Try cycling along the canal!
For anyone wanting to try cycling along the Göta Canal without too much adventure, we recommend the Söderköping – Mem route. It’s best suited for those arriving by car and bringing their own bicycles.
It’s a pleasant day trip to start in Söderköping and cycle eastwards. After 5 km, you reach Mem, the Göta Canal's gateway to the Baltic Sea, where you can stop for lunch. Then you can cycle back at your leisure, taking plenty of time to watch the boats and locks along the way.
Once back in Söderköping, it’s a must to treat yourself to a delicious ice cream at Smultronstället – Sweden's largest ice cream restaurant! You’ll also have time to play in the fun playground by Söderköping's lock and stroll around the charming streets. Did you know that the Madicken films were shot here? If you still have some energy after cycling, you can also climb the stairs to the viewpoint on Ramunderberget, from where you can see the entire town and more!
