A great cycling tour for those arriving by train!
If you want to take the train to your cycling holiday, Töreboda is the perfect starting point. From here, you can rent a bicycle and cycle the first section of the Göta Canal trail to Sjötorp.
You could start the day by picking up your rental bicycles at Café Visthuset or Sustainable Stella, then fuel up with lunch at Restaurant KRUBB before setting off. It's easy to follow the trail that runs along the Göta Canal all the way.
By afternoon tea time, you should reach Hajstorp, where Hajstorps Slusscafé is the perfect stop. There are also craftspeople around the canal who are well worth a visit before you cycle on. If you want to take more frequent breaks, there are several nice rest areas along the way where you can light a fire, but you’ll need to bring your own firewood.
When you reach Sjötorp, you can stay at Pensionat Kajutan, Perssons i Backen, or in one of Kanalkrogen's cabins. All of these places also serve dinner, so there’s plenty of choice.

Cycle back - or take the boat
The next day, you cycle back towards Töreboda. You could choose Norrqvarn Hotell & Konferens as your first lunch stop and then make a return visit to Hajstorp. Another option is to take the ship M/S Bellevue, which offers a different perspective of both the canal and the locks! The boat departs from the Varvsbassängen in Sjötorp.
If you would then like to stay another night in Töreboda before heading home, you can check in at Pensionat Prästgården. Instead of going home, you could also choose to cycle onwards to Karlsborg to complete the western part of the Göta Canal trail.
If you prefer to start in Sjötorp
If you’re travelling by car, you might prefer to start your cycling tour in Sjötorp. In that case, you can rent bicycles from Sjötorps cykeluthyrning and cycle the same route as above, but in the opposite direction. Heading this way, Norrqvarn Hotell & Konferens is a good first stop for lunch, and Pensionat Prästgården is a good overnight option before you turn back. You can also take the M/S Bellevue from Töreboda back to Sjötorp.
If you would like to extend the trip by a night, you might also plan a stop at Lyrsta R B&B. You could also combine this tour with cycling further to Tåtorp or Karlsborg to complete the entire western section of the Göta Canal trail.
