Damage during the journey

To travel on the Göta Canal your boat needs to be insured. Should your vessel incur any damage during your trip, read more here about what to do. This information is also available in your Skippers’ Guide, which you receive on check-in.

Accident with another vessel

Should you have an accident with another traveller on the canal, you resolve it together with your insurance companies and do not need to involve AB Göta kanalbolag. 

Other damage

Should your vessel incur damage which you consider to be caused by the condition of the canal or the operation of the personnel, and you wish to claim AB Göta kanalbolag, you should immediately contact the nearest lock keeper, who will contact their management. You must remain at the site of the incident and provide your version of the event by filling a damage report form. A copy of this should be sent to your own insurance company, who handles the case against AB Göta kanalbolag´s insurance company. 

In general all travel on the canal is made at the boat owner’s own risk. All vessels on the Göta Canal must at least have liability insurance.
